We’re not sure if all salon owners and stylists for London Fashion Week began their training by colouring friends’ hair in their Mum’s kitchen as a teenager…but that’s how our Director Julia first ignited her passion for the industry. She has been hairdressing for more than ½ her life (not including washing perm rollers for her Grandma’s salon at the age of ten). Julia was the owner of award winning Newstead Hair for over 10 years before making her way up the hill and opening Mésa Hair in Trevallyn.
Career highlights for Julia include being a stylist for London and Sydney Fashion Weeks, The Voice Australia and Project Runway Australia, as well as being awarded Telstra Young Business Woman of the Year. But none stand out more than meeting her idol Kylie Minogue when they “worked together” (Julia’s words, not ours) on The Voice. Many would forgive Julia if she’d retired early at that point, having ticked off the ultimate bucket list item; but Julia’s hairdressing bucket list continues to be bigger than Charlene’s hair circa 1988.
As a Mum of three gorgeous boys though, we have our suspicions that playing with hair and makeup is the perfect outlet away from superheroes and Ninja Turtles.
Some numbers for you about Heather… Heather has 4 sisters and one brother. She has 3 daughters and 1 son. She has 5 grandsons and 5 granddaughters. She has worked in the hairdressing industry for over 40 years. She worked in her mother’s salon alongside 2 of her sisters for 23 years. She then purchased the salon herself which she owned for 8 years. During those 8 years she worked with all 3 of her daughters, before selling the salon to one of her daughters while continuing to work there for another 10 years. And now, she is a business partner and director of Mesa Hair with one of her daughters...
If you can follow all of that you’re doing very well!
When Heather isn’t being a salon socialite, she uses her years of experience to ensure that Mesa Hair runs smoothly.
Lucy is our resident imposter. Having been a stylist for Sydney Fashion week and The Voice Australia, Lucy is no stranger to high-end hairdressing gigs. On her days off, however, you might see someone who looks like Lucy (minus the makeup and heels) chasing a gorgeous toddler around, guzzling coffee, and wearing activewear (despite not being very active). She keeps this side well-hidden though when she’s working her magic at Mésa Hair, so don’t tell her that we told you. You’d never guess!
With over 14 years in the industry; in which time she’s been awarded both Tasmanian Junior and Senior hairdresser of the year, Lucy’s the go-to girl for restyling. She is extremely realistic and honest about what can and can’t be achieved. Her hairdressing mantra is that she wants her clients to look great; not just as they walk out the door, but for the next 6 weeks…even if they too have a toddler to chase around and coffee to be guzzled!
Thank goodness for Lily! Lily loves to be organised and keeps us all on track. She may be the baby of our team, but she is a great salon coordinator who’s always one step ahead!
For Lily, hairdressing is a dream come true. And for us, Lily’s passion for the industry makes her a perfect fit at Mésa Hair. She’s our go-to girl for getting us Saturday night ready with her expert flair for styling, curls and waves.
